Couple Leaks Fake Baby Names to Family Members Who Won't Stop Offering Their Suggestions (2)

A couple who will soon have a baby say they've had enough with their family members offering up baby name suggestions — so they've started leaking "fake names" as a way to get them to stop.

In a post shared anonymously on Reddit, a woman writes that she and her husband decided "to have some fun with annoying family members who wanted to name our child for us."

"The issues started a week after we announced and some relatives on either side were suggesting names. Then a few members of our families (MIL, SIL, BIL, my aunt and uncle and my two sisters) decided we'd name a daughter Elizabeth or Cassandra and we'd name a son William or Patrick," she writes.

But the couple wasn't interested, telling their family that they "weren't taking name suggestions and to stop acting like they can tell us what to name our kid."

"We were told the names mentioned were good solid names and it would prevent any weird tragic names that people these days choose," she adds.

So, the couple decided to leak names that they have no intention on actually using.

"This meant commenting on random Facebook posts with a name and acting like we were going to use that. Or photoshopping photos with baby items that had other names on them," she writes, adding that the couple leaked some very "out there" names, like Dicky and Sprite.

"It annoyed the relatives it was intended to, but then another relative spoke up and was like 'Why would they waste money on stuff with the name if they change it a week later' and then the relatives realized [it was a prank]."

When the relatives asked the couple why they did it, the couple told them they were annoyed and trying to push back on those who were so "insistent" on specific names.

"They said it was childish. My husband pointed out they were the ones who childishly believed they could name our child for us," she writes. "Other family members found it hilarious."

Reddit users by and large say the couple isn't in the wrong, with one writing, "This is peak petty and I love it."

"You set a boundary, they ignored it and you had some harmless fun in response. If they got that invested that’s on them," wrote another commenter.
